1. The Robins.

This is the third year in a row that the robins have built a nest in the wreath by our front door. I've been taking really crappy photos of them with my cell phone, so today I broke out the DSLR to get some pics you could actually see. This is about as close as I could get to them, as Mommy and Daddy Robin are really into dive-bombing my head these days-I actually shot this through the screen door.
2. The Mail Art.

I'm know you all mostly know me as this wonderful, giving, considerate person, but really, I'm kind of an asshole. My Senior Thesis class started a Mail Art project last summer after graduation, and I have had it basically since then. When Stephen Albano caught news of this blog, he suggested I maybe pull that envelope out and get to work, and I liked that idea. There's a bunch of different steps and activities that go along with it, so here's a taste of what's to come, without giving too much away beforehand.
Other things on my mind with all this art stuff:
I have here a list next to my desk of things I want to work on. Maybe attack building that zoetrope again. Also some text work as well. Last week I started a linocut, but as we all know, I'm a horrible printmaker, but fuck it, i enjoy doing it. I may or may not be posting that when its done.
Okay, I think thats all for now. BAINOW

OMG -- what the hell are you on, darlin'? Birdies? I guess I can't be to critical, I have flowers on my blog for lack of anything better....sigh. WTF!

I've been doing linocuts lately as well after avoiding them for about five years. One way to ease yourself into them is to carve small stamps out of erasers - white "technical" erasers are super easy to carve using linocut tools and making a stamp out of one only takes about a half hour as opposed to several hours for a bigger piece of hard-to-carve linoleum. If you do use linoleum I'd recommend microwaving it for about ten seconds to make it easier to carve.
Oooh! Thanks for the comments!
Frank- I know, its not exactly "Bridgie" subject matter, to say the least, but it was more for myself than for anything else, and since I shot it, I thought I might as well post it. I promise more gritty things are to come! Maybe I should take you on my adventure to Las Vegas, so we can both produce the good stuff!
Ruth- Thank you! I may try to play with erasers. I have been using linoleum- cutting away at the kitchen table so I'm close to the microwave. I did build a makeshift studio in the basement last fall, but I'm too lazy to be running up to nuke the linoleum every 5 minutes, haha. Really my problem is that I can't draw or cut very well. I just picked up some transfer paper, so hopefully that will at least take some of the problems I have with drawing away (i started without it because I just wanted to start!!!). I just think printmaking is fantastic and I want to play!
